Scotch Eggs
Scotch Eggs - be warned- you make them once and you will have to make them again! A soft boiled egg wrapped in seasoned sausage and deep fried is always a pleaser for the whole family. We throw together an easy spicy maple dip for our Scotch eggs in this recipe!
• Soft boil your eggs in water with salt, making them easy to peel & and cool in an ice bath over night (or for at least an hour until cooled through).
• Make a thin patty out of the sausage, place your soft boiled egg center in the patty, and gently wrap the egg until covered.
• It’s fry time! Fry for 4-5 minutes remaining until golden brown, rotating often. Cook 1-2 at a time, more may slow down cooking time
You will need:
Eggs (soft boiled and raw)
Sausage
Flour
Panko/bread crumbs
Maple syrup
Hot sauce- your favorite
Dijon mustard (optional)
Salt & pepper
Onion powder (optional)
Garrlic powder (optional)
Oil - enough to fry
• Soft boil your eggs in water with salt, making them easy to peel & and cool in an ice bath over night (or for at least an hour until cooled through).
Gently peel the shells.
• Season sausage with a few pinches of salt and pepper, as well as onion powder and garlic powder.
(Add a few dashes, always a generous amount!)
• In a bowl beat an egg, in another bowl place some flour, and on a plate- lay out the Panko or bread crumbs.
• Warm your fryer to medium high
• Make a thin patty out of the sausage, place your soft boiled egg center in the patty, and gently wrap the egg until covered.
• Roll the sausage ball through the flour.
• Dip the ball into the beat egg, covering thoroughly.
• Then roll through the panko, coating each side, the. set aside on a plate.
• It’s fry time! Fry for 4-5 minutes remaining until golden brown, rotating often. Cook 1-2 at a time, more may slow down cooking time
Spicy Maple Dipping Sauce
Mix maple syrup and your favorite hot sauce together!
If you really like some spicy flavor, add a little Dijon mustard to the mix too!
